Magnetic

The documentary is about the women and men drawn in by the loosened forces of nature. The team travelled to the most remote places in the world, from New Zealand to Pakistan and on to the islands of Tahiti, with the newest camera equipment and the best athletes in their disciplines. The film does not tell of a competition; it records the preparation, the waiting and the days when conditions were wrong. The account does not present risk as heroism and lets the athletes speak in their own measures. The image is the film’s real claim, and much of it is taken from a distance and wide. The use of sound brings the landscape forward. Thierry Donard’s hundred and fifteen minute French documentary was completed in 2018.
