What Manslaughter Is About
A middle-aged university lecturer begins an affair with a student, and when she is accused of a policeman's death he decides to champion her. He gives up his family, his career and his standing to do it. He is not certain whether he wants to believe what she tells him, and as the case goes on his own life comes under examination too. Per Fly's 2005 film closes the trilogy he made about class in Denmark. It sets a moral puzzle: is the man really standing up for justice, or is this a late grab at a youth he missed. Jesper Christensen and Pernilla August play it, and the film leaves the answer to the audience.
