What Massimo Troisi: Somebody Down There Likes Me Is About
Massimo Troisi was a comedian from Naples. He began on the stage, then wrote and directed his own films, and became the voice of a generation in Italy. His last film was Il Postino. He knew during the shoot that his heart was in a serious condition, and he put off the operation in order to finish the film. Twelve hours after filming ended, on 4 June 1994, he died of a heart attack at forty-one. Mario Martone's documentary works through archive footage, old recordings and the people who were closest to him. Paolo Sorrentino speaks, as does Anna Pavignano, who worked with Troisi for years. His comedy and his death are both in the film, and it does not separate the two.
