What Matthew's Days Is About
Mateusz lives in a farmhouse. His sister Olga is with him. She carries the work of the house and their living. Mateusz takes on whatever small jobs come his way. What he earns stays slight. He does not get on well with those around him. People do not understand him and make fun of him. He himself is at ease in the forest and among the birds. One day he brings a woodcutter home from the forest. The man stays there a while. In time something grows between him and Olga. Mateusz notices it. The thought of a life without his sister shakes him. Franciszek Pieczka and Anna Milewska take the leads. The film was adapted from a novel by Tarjei Vesaas. Witold Leszczyński’s Polish film was finished in 1968.
