Mayor

David Osit's 2020 documentary follows Musa Hadid, the mayor of Ramallah. The municipality lays pavement, hangs Christmas decorations and debates city branding, and all of it is done under occupation. The method is to show that contrast without comment. Meetings are watched at length; then a military operation begins in the street and the limit of the tools available to a mayor becomes visible. Hadid is Christian and represents a minority in the city. The film looks from one side and does not conceal it; the Israeli position is not part of the narrative. Who it's for: those curious about everyday governance in Palestine. Who it's not for: viewers who want to hear both sides of the question; the documentary looks from a single position.
