What Mediastan Is About
A small Wikileaks team travels through the countries of Central Asia talking to newspaper editors; their real aim is to get the secret American diplomatic cables they hold published in the local press. Along the journey that starts in Kabul, every editor gives a different answer: some are afraid, some will not fall out with their government, some think of the story as something to be paid for. The same questions are then put to the large papers in London and New York, and the answers there turn out to be much the same. The film’s view is openly on the side of Wikileaks, and Julian Assange is part of the production. Johannes Wahlström’s ninety four minute documentary was completed in 2013.
