Melchior the Apothecary

In medieval Tallinn a celebrated knight, only just freed from Baltic pirates, is murdered. His head has been cut off, his mouth stuffed with coins, and the gold chain he bought that same day is gone. The bailiff hands the investigation to Melchior, an apothecary. The young man works out that the dead man had been looking for a mysterious Tallinn prisoner, and the trail leads to the Dominican monastery; anyone who touches the secret is in danger. Directed by Elmo Nüganen, the film is the first part of a trilogy based on Indrek Hargla’s novels. Märten Metsaviir plays Melchior. All three films came out during 2022, the first time an entire trilogy premiered within one calendar year in Estonian cinema.
