What Mellow Mud Is About
After their father dies and their mother leaves them, Raja and her brother Robis have to live with a domineering grandmother in the family’s small country house. When the grandmother suddenly dies, the two of them face a choice: report it and accept an orphanage, or hide the body and go on as if nothing had happened. Renārs Vimba’s first feature looks closely at a girl on the edge of adulthood managing both abandonment and her own waking desires. It won the Crystal Bear for best film in the Generation 14plus section at the Berlinale in 2016. Elīna Vaska plays Raja.
