Memories of My Childhood

The film was adapted from the book of the same name by Ion Creangă. The writer, now old, remembers his childhood in his small house in Iași, and from there the account returns to his village, Humulești. The boy Nică does whatever comes into his head and is forever landing himself in trouble. The first image of the film is that boy on his way to school with a huge church book in his arms. Small incidents on the way to school and around the village follow one after another. The film gives childhood not as a fairy tale but as something remembered; the grown man and the boy stand inside the same account. Village life itself is the second character of the story. Ștefan Ciubotărașu plays the writer. Elisabeta Bostan’s seventy two minute Romanian film was completed in 1964.
