What Men About Town Is About
Three workers up from the country, Skopec, Prouza and Petrtýl, who repair house façades in Prague, want to see the world of expensive cafés and elegant women. So they hire a gentleman of the old school to teach them how to behave. That is the whole machinery of the film: ordinary people impersonating the ladies and gentlemen of high society. Directed by Zdeněk Podskalský, the comedy drew close to three million admissions between 1969 and 1989 and became one of the most successful Czechoslovak comedies ever made. Fifty years on it is still shown regularly on television. Jiří Sovák, Vlastimil Brodský, Jan Libíček and Jiřina Bohdalová are in it.
