Merrily We Live

Emily Kilbourne is a wealthy woman with a peculiar enthusiasm: she hires the tramps and ex-convicts who turn up at her door as servants. The household is permanently chaotic as a result and her husband has had enough. One day a well-dressed, well-spoken man appears at the door. Emily takes him on too and puts him in a chauffeur's uniform. He catches the attention of the daughter of the house, Geraldine. She is engaged, but her fiancé is dull. And there is the question standing there: is this chauffeur really a tramp. Norman Z. McLeod directs the American film; ninety-five minutes, with Constance Bennett as Geraldine, Brian Aherne as the chauffeur and Billie Burke as Emily. Hal Roach produced. It received five Oscar nominations, one of them for Billie Burke as supporting actress.
