Road to Rio

Scat and Hot Lips are two out-of-work musicians. Having accidentally set fire to a circus big top, they have to run, and stow away on a ship bound for Rio. On board they save Lucia, who is trying to throw herself into the sea. She thanks them, then unexpectedly turns them in to the captain. They work out why later: she is under hypnosis and will be forced into a marriage she does not want when the ship docks. The pair decide to break up the wedding. Norman Z. McLeod directs the fifth of the Road pictures with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour, and the biggest earner of the series. A hundred minutes. The Andrews Sisters turn up for a number. The habit of talking to the camera and joking with the audience is fully settled here.
