What Pennies from Heaven Is About
Larry Poole is in prison on a charge he did not earn. Before he gets out he makes a promise to another inmate. The promise is to find a family and help them. Once outside he goes looking for them. The family turns out to be a little girl and her elderly grandfather. Both of them need a great deal of help. The girl is called Patsy Smith. Larry had a plan of his own. He wanted to go to Venice and work as a gondolier. That plan is put off. He starts singing in the street for money and meets Susan Sprague, a welfare worker. Susan does not think the child should stay where she is, and begins proceedings to send Patsy to an orphanage. Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong carry the music, with Madge Evans and Edith Fellows, in the eighty one minute film, an American production Norman Z. McLeod finished in 1936.
