What Merry-Go-Round Is About
Ben Phillips from New York and the mysterious Léo Hoffmann do not know each other; both have been summoned to Paris by a mutual acquaintance. When they arrive she does not appear at the airport, and the two strangers find themselves inside a tangled puzzle turning around a dead father’s estate. Jacques Rivette wrote the hundred and sixty minute French film with Eduardo de Gregorio and Suzanne Schiffman. It was shot in 1977 but not released until 1981; the production went badly wrong, Maria Schneider walked off at one point, and in some scenes Hermine Karagheuz took over the part. Joe Dallesandro and Maria Schneider play the leads.
