Metal Lords

In high school the only thing holding Hunter and Kevin together is metal. The two decide to enter the school's Battle of the Bands and bring in Emily, a cellist, to fill what is missing. Kevin leaves for a while to join another band and Hunter goes into rehab. The three come together on the competition stage and finish second, and then the performance spreads online and things go elsewhere. Peter Sollett directed from a screenplay by D. B. Weiss. Adrian Greensmith plays Hunter and Jaeden Martell plays Kevin. Ramin Djawadi wrote the score, and the guitarist Tom Morello served as executive producer and contributed songs. It was shot in Portland, using Parkrose High School and Revolution Hall. The budget was 42 million dollars and it runs 98 minutes. It went up on Netflix on 8 April 2022. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 62 percent, the consensus calling it a good-natured and overall enjoyable look at adolescence. Metacritic sits at 59 from 20 reviews. Who it is for: people who listen to metal and like stories about starting a band at school. Who it is not for: anyone expecting the genre shapes to break. The film follows the known path of the teen comedy without deviating.
