Micheline Presle What Mignon Has Left Is About
When her father goes on trial, fifteen-year-old Mignon is taken out of Paris and sent to her Italian relatives in Rome. The house is crowded and nobody takes to her: the girl is haughty and the house is loud. Her small cousin Giorgio falls for her at once. Over the summer Giorgio grows up and learns, for the first time, a pain that is not his own. Francesca Archibugi's film was her first feature and took a number of awards in Italy. Stefania Sandrelli and Massimo Dapporto are in the cast. The telling does not imitate a child's way of seeing, but it gives events only as far as Giorgio knows them; the adult world looks half-finished to him and to the audience alike.
