Miss Kiet's Children

The documentary was filmed in a Dutch school. The teacher is Kiet Engels. Her pupils have only just arrived in the country. Most of them are refugees. Everything is new and confusing to them. Some are very unsettled at first. There is no shortage of quarrelling and stubbornness. Kiet is strict without being harsh. She is warm without being soft. Her patience does not run out. She teaches them to read and write Dutch. She also teaches them to work together and to settle their disputes between themselves, and in time the class quietens and the children grow surer of themselves. Peter Lataster and Petra Lataster-Czisch made the hundred and thirteen minute documentary, a Dutch production finished in 2016.
