What Miss Lovely Is About
The film takes place in the mid eighties, in the lowest rung of the Bombay film industry. Two brothers are making cheap horror and sex films; the trade has rules of its own, dangers of its own and debts of its own. One of the brothers wants out of the arrangement and wants to make a real film, and that wish opens a gap between them. The account neither romanticises the industry nor looks down on it, and it makes the camera itself resemble the coarse, over coloured look of the period. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the lead in Ashim Ahluwalia’s hundred and thirteen minute Indian film, completed in 2014.
