Mister Organ

David Farrier's 2022 New Zealand documentary begins with a small news item. A report reaches him of cars being clamped improperly outside an antique shop in Auckland, and as he starts investigating he comes up against a man named Michael Organ. Organ tells stories about himself, files lawsuits, talks for hours and wears down whoever he is speaking to. The documentary stops being a criminal investigation and becomes a record of Farrier's own endurance being tested, with the director including the moments when he says he should abandon the film. What the account is really about is what it is to meet someone who talks knowing that it exhausts you. The ending is left open and offers no relief. Who it's for: viewers who like unconventional documentary and psychologically curious accounts. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a clear outcome; the film provides no resolution.
