Moment of Contact

James Fox's 2022 documentary presents events said to have taken place in Varginha, Brazil, in 1996. Residents of the town reported seeing a strange creature and it was claimed that an object had come down. The method is gathering testimony. Fox goes to the place and speaks with eyewitnesses and with officials from the period; the narrative compares these accounts but offers no verified physical evidence. The film proceeds from a frame that largely accepts the claims. Little room is given to the opposing view and official statements are treated as cover-up; a viewer should watch knowing this. Who it's for: those following the debate around unidentified aerial phenomena. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an evidence-led investigation; the documentary is an advocacy piece and its claims are not independently verified.
