What Moment of Terror Is About
The only son of a working class woman is killed when a car hits him. The driver is the wife of a company owner, and she leaves the scene. When justice does not follow, the mother changes her identity. She takes a job as a maid in that household. In her mind is the idea of harming their child, who is about the same age. The film does not approve of that idea, but it shows where it came from. How the difference of class shows up in justice is the real subject. The distance between the woman and her own plan builds the tension of the story. Hideko Takamine and Yōko Tsukasa appear in Mikio Naruse’s ninety five minute Japanese film, completed in 1966.
