More Beautiful

The film follows five women of different ages, all of them dealing with their own bodies, their own appearance and other people's expectations. A teacher, a mother, a young girl, a woman in middle age and an older woman; their stories cross at points and each carries a different pressure. Karoline Herfurth directs and appears in the cast. Nora Tschirner returns as the teacher Vicky, and Anneke Kim Sarnau joins. It continues Herfurth's Wunderschön of 2022. The first film stayed in the German box office charts for weeks and the sequel was made in the same shape. The structure is episodic: parallel stories with a shared theme. The known limit of that shape is here too, with some strands markedly weaker than others. The subject is acceptance of the body and the ability to decide for oneself. The narrative says so directly and does not use metaphor; in some scenes it becomes a statement of thesis. It was financed with a million euros from Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, the largest award made in 2024. It opened in Germany on 13 February 2025. Who it is for: viewers who like German popular comedy and episodic films centred on women's stories. Who it is not for: the message is very plain, there are many characters, and some of the stories stay on the surface.
