What Mr. Forbush and the Penguins Is About
Forbush is a young biologist. There is something self satisfied about him. He takes a six month posting in Antarctica. His task is to study a penguin colony. Where he stays is Shackleton’s abandoned hut. His only link with the world outside is the radio. There are also the letters he writes to his girlfriend. The winter is severe. Loneliness weighs on him. In time he comes to know the animals of the colony. Watching the penguins changes him. By the end of the posting he is another man. John Hurt and Hayley Mills take the leads, with Dudley Sutton and Tony Britton also in the cast, in the British film directed by Arne Sucksdorff, Roy Boulting and Alfred Viola in 1971.
