Mr. Moto in Danger Island

Mr. Moto goes to Puerto Rico to find the source of the contraband diamonds flooding the world jewel market. What he runs into is a series of killings by thrown dagger, an army colonel who has been framed, and a gang boss whose identity is unknown and who is getting information from inside the investigation. The 1939 film is one of the fastest entries in the series, moving without a pause across sixty four minutes. One thing should be said at the outset: the Japanese detective is played by Peter Lorre, a Hungarian, and the film also contains scenes that make a Black character ridiculous in the way American cinema of the period routinely did. That is a record of when it was made rather than a flaw in the plot, and there is no need to look past it.
