Miracles Of Love

Mahsun Kirmizigul returns to the world of his 2015 film The Miracle. Aziz, a disabled man in a mountain village in the east, and Mizgin, who is married to him by arrangement, find life in the village unbearable and move to a town in the west, where nothing gets easier. The film handles disability and poverty together and never restrains the emotion, which is the director's established method. The eastern and western halves were genuinely shot apart, in Kars and in Foca near Izmir. It gave Kirmizigul his strongest opening at the Turkish box office and stayed in cinemas for eighteen weeks, taking over thirty million lira. Who it is for: viewers who want Turkish melodrama played directly at the feelings. Who it is not for: anyone uncomfortable with disability framed to draw pity.
