What The Miracle Is About
The story of Mahir, a teacher posted in 1961 from the west of Turkey to a mountain village in the east. The village has no school building; Mahir makes one condition for staying, that girls will be sent to school too, and they build it together with the villagers. The second strand of the story is Aziz, who cannot speak and has difficulty walking. The film drew a very large audience in Turkey. One caution: Aziz is written largely inside a frame of pity and inspiration, presenting disability as a lesson rather than as a life.
