Mumbai Meri Jaan

On 11 July 2006, bombs went off one after another on the suburban trains in Mumbai; 209 people were killed and more than seven hundred injured. The film is not about that day but about what came after it. Five separate people in the same city deal with the same event in different ways: a television reporter, a corporate employee, a policeman, a street vendor and a housewife. None of them knows any of the others. Nishikant Kamat's film also deals with the suspicion that surfaced after the attack: one of the characters starts seeing every Muslim he meets as a potential threat. The film neither justifies that attitude nor condemns it in a single line; it shows where it came from and watches what it leads to. It won Filmfare awards for screenplay, editing and the critics' prize. Irrfan Khan, Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon are in the cast.
