What Madaari Is About
Madaari was director Nishikant Kamat's final film before his death in 2020; it was marketed with a reference to a real event, the actual collapse of a metro bridge under construction on Mumbai's Andheri Kurla road, though the film's story of kidnapping a minister's son for revenge is entirely fictional. Made on a budget of about 200 million rupees, it grossed roughly 183 million domestically, a weak commercial performance. Then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal publicly recommended the film to everyone after watching it. Who it's for: anyone curious about a Hindi thriller that references a real bridge collapse while telling a fictional revenge story, one a sitting politician publicly recommended. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a major box office success, since the film barely covered its budget.
