Murari

Krishna Vamsi's 2001 Telugu film follows Murari, living under a curse on his family. It is said that every forty-eight years one of the family's men dies and his turn has come; but Murari does not believe it and goes on building his life. The appeal lies in belief and daily life standing side by side. Family rituals, temple scenes and wedding preparations fill most of the narrative while the curse waits in the background and comes forward at the end. Mahesh Babu leads and the role was decisive in his career. Krishna Vamsi shows traditional Telugu family structure in detail; the music and dance sequences serve a function inside the narrative. Who it's for: those who like 2000s Telugu family drama. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an ending that questions fate; the film finally accepts the curse as real.
