What Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Is About
Bridget, widowed four years ago, is living with her two children while her friends push her to date again. She meets a man of twenty-nine, and her son's science teacher also has her attention. The film keeps the comedy of the series but puts grief underneath it this time; its best passages are the ones where it is not joking. The question of an age gap is handled here from the woman's side. Michael Morris directed. Renee Zellweger returned to the role, with Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the cast. It is adapted from Helen Fielding's third novel. Who it's for: those who have followed the series from the start. Who it's not for: viewers expecting the light tone of the first films; this one is noticeably sadder.
