Murder Rap: Inside the Biggie and Tupac Murders

Tupac Shakur was killed in Las Vegas in 1996 and The Notorious B.I.G. in Los Angeles in 1997. Neither case was officially solved, and over the years a large body of conspiracy theory grew around them. This documentary rests on the account of Greg Kading, a former detective who served on the task force investigating the murders, and uses police files, recorded statements not shown before, and interviews with witnesses. Michael Dorsey's film presents that account as the answer to both murders. The picture it offers is contested, though: some of the statements it relies on came from people in prison who expected something in return, and both cases remain officially open today. The film does not weigh that heavily enough. It is worth keeping in mind while watching that what is here is one detective's conclusion, not a prosecutor's finding.
