Mussum: Um Filme do Cacildis

Mussum was a musician first. He sang in the group Os Originais do Samba, then joined Os Trapalhões and became one of the four men who changed how comedy was done on Brazilian television. The words he invented, the endings he stuck on them and his way of speaking all settled into the language of the whole country. The documentary tells those two lives, the musician and the comedian, side by side. Susanna Lira's film puts archive footage together with conversations with his family and colleagues. The telling does not stop at celebration: what place a Black comedian held on Brazilian television, which parts he was given and which he was not, are discussed as well. Lázaro Ramos narrates. In seventy-two minutes you see the man behind one of a country's best loved names.
