Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos What Mutum Is About
Thiago is a ten year old boy living with his family on a remote farm in the dry country of Minas Gerais in Brazil. There is something wrong with his eyes, and he is always on his guard around a hard father who grows angrier as time goes on. As separations and betrayals inside the house pile up, he slowly begins to see and understand things he could not before, and that is how his innocence ends. Loosely adapted from a novella by Guimaraes Rosa, the film has no score; every sound in it comes from birds, animals and daily work. Sandra Kogut’s ninety five minute Brazilian film was completed in 2007.
