What My Favorite Year Is About
New York, 1954. Benjy Stone is a young comedy writer on a live television variety show. His boyhood hero, the swashbuckling film star Alan Swann, is booked as a guest. But Swann is not the man on the screen: he drinks constantly, chases women, and live broadcast frightens him half to death. Benjy is handed the job of keeping him upright until air. Peter O'Toole played Swann and was Oscar-nominated for it. Richard Benjamin's first film as director. It shows from the inside what writing live television in the fifties was like.
