What My Love Affair with Marriage Is About
From an early age Zelma learns one thing from songs and fairy tales: if a girl behaves the way a girl is supposed to behave, love will solve all her problems. But as she grows up she sees that the promise does not work; the harder she tries to conform, the more her body resists. The account follows three marriages and the years in between. The film was made in animation and for an adult audience; the director drew on her own life. It presents the rebellion inside her not as a fault to be put down but as something to be accepted. Signe Baumane’s hundred and eight minute film was completed in 2023.
