What Narappa Is About

Narappa has to flee into the forest with his younger son Sinappa after an upper caste landowner is killed; the boy did it in answer to the killing of his elder brother. For his son to have a future, the father will have to deal both with the men pursuing them and with a system of justice closed to him from the start, and will have to give one thing up after another. Behind the account stands a real attack in Andhra in 1985 in which Dalit villagers were killed. Srikanth Addala’s hundred and fifty three minute Telugu film is a remake of Vetrimaaran’s Asuran, which was itself adapted from Poomani’s novel Vekkai. Venkatesh and Priyamani appear; it was completed in 2021.
