What Nicostratos the Pelican Is About
After his wife dies, a fisherman on a Greek island shuts himself down completely and stops speaking even to his son. One day the boy finds a pelican chick and smuggles it home. As the bird grows, the boy's life changes and the whole island takes an interest, and the door the father closed starts to open a crack at a time. Olivier Horlait's film is a story about a child and an animal set in the Greek islands. Emir Kusturica plays the father, the director we know from his own films appearing here as a silent, injured man. It sits between postcard landscapes and grief, and it is a family film.
