Night Hunter

A detective is chasing a serial offender who abducts young women. But the suspect is caught in the first half hour and the film moves to where it actually lives: the interview room, what the man says, and the uncertainty about who is steering whom. Its best idea is the presence of a group operating outside the law: a retired judge runs a team of decoy accounts to entrap online predators, and the police cross paths with them. So the question is not only who the offender is but who is administering justice. Henry Cavill plays the detective, Ben Kingsley the retired judge and Alexandra Daddario the police psychologist. David Raymond wrote and directed it, his first feature. It was shot under the title Nomis and distributed as Night Hunter. Before you watch, know this: the subject is child abuse and the film uses it as genre material. The script also attempts more than one reversal in its last stretch and loses its credibility there; the cast is stronger than the writing.
