Nirvana

An Italian cyberpunk film. Jimi is a games programmer. It is nearly New Year and the game he has to finish is due for delivery. But something goes wrong with a character inside it: Solo realises he is a game character. Solo lives the same loop again and again; each time he is robbed and killed. He asks Jimi for one thing: to delete the game. The problem is that the game has already been uploaded to the company's servers, and deleting it means getting inside. Jimi goes down into the back streets of the city and takes on two helpers. The world is a piled-up metropolis: migrant districts, illegal connections, shops selling body parts, and constant rain. A genre attempted at this scale rarely in Italy, it was visually ambitious for its time. Christopher Lambert plays Jimi, with Diego Abatantuono and Sergio Rubini as his helpers. Gabriele Salvatores directed. It was a commercial success in Italy and won technical awards at the national awards. An interesting example for anyone who likes cyberpunk and 1990s science fiction. For a viewer looking for depth, the film cannot gather its ideas and some sections are left hanging.
