Niskavuoren Heta

The story begins in 1898. Heta is a daughter of the Niskavuori family. She is a woman who will not be told. She marries while pregnant. Her husband Akusti is a farmhand. The man who broke her heart is Santeri. Her bitterness towards him does not pass. The couple start out on the small farm at Muumäki. Their loyal maid Siipirikko is there with them. Heta means to run the new house. She leaves nobody else a say in it. It takes her a long time to see what kind of man she married. The story comes from a play by Hella Wuolijoki. It is one of the Niskavuori films. The film won three Jussi awards, going to the director and to two of the players. Rauni Luoma and Kaarlo Halttunen appear in the ninety five minute film, a Finnish production Edvin Laine finished in 1952.
