What No End Is About

Poland, 1982, the year of martial law. A young lawyer named Antek has died, and the film opens with his ghost; he watches those he left behind and can touch none of them. His widow Urszula, a translator, only understands how much she loved him once he is gone. The case of the striking worker Antek was to defend passes to an older lawyer who has learned to compromise. This was the first time Kieślowski wrote with the lawyer Krzysztof Piesiewicz and worked with Zbigniew Preisner; Dekalog and Three Colours came out of that team. In Poland the government, the opposition and the Church all attacked it.
