No Good Men

Shahrbanoo Sadat's 2026 film is set in Kabul in 2021. Naru is the only camerawoman at the city's main television station; she has left her husband and is fighting to keep custody of her son. Qodrat, the station's best-known presenter, grows close to her. The film builds this in the shape of romantic comedy; the narrative keeps the Taliban's return in the background, and the tension comes from the gap between what the viewer knows and what the characters do not. The director also takes the lead. The tone is humorous, and the close breaks it. Who it's for: viewers of Afghan cinema and of films that use genre in a political setting.
