What Nokia Mobile: We Were Connecting People Is About
The documentary tells the rise and the fall of a large company founded in Finland in the mobile telephone business. For a time its phones spread everywhere in the world and changed habits of communication; the company also held a decisive place in the country’s economy. Then something changed and it fell back just as fast. The film speaks with engineers, with designers and with managers; each gives their own account of what happened, and the accounts do not always agree. What is valuable in the account is that it does not tie the collapse to a single cause. While telling the story of a company the account also tells how a country saw itself. Arto Koskinen’s ninety one minute Finnish documentary was completed in 2017.
