What Nothing but the Truth Is About
Steve Bennett, a stockbroker, wagers ten thousand dollars with his new partners that he can tell nothing but the truth for twenty four hours without a single lie. From the moment the bet starts everything goes wrong; every situation requiring politeness, every courteous phrase and every small untruth is now forbidden, and the man offends one person after another. He also needs the money for a donation, which means he cannot afford to lose. Elliott Nugent’s ninety minute American comedy was adapted from a play and draws its humour from how badly honesty fits social life. Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard appear, with Edward Arnold in the cast. It was completed in 1941.
