Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana

Prabhu Deva's 2005 Telugu film follows the relationship between Siri, from a traditional family in Andhra, and Santosh, who lives in Hyderabad. She marries against her family's wishes; the real story begins after that, because the groom will not accept the marriage without his father-in-law's approval. The idea at the centre is that running away is not a solution: Santosh chooses to go back and win the family over, a template much imitated in Telugu cinema afterwards. The rapport between Siddharth and Trisha works. Devi Sri Prasad's music was among the most popular albums of its period. It runs long and the father's resistance becomes repetitive after a point. Who it's for: viewers who like Telugu family romance and Indian cinema of the 2000s. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a short narrative, or who will find a story built on family approval too traditional.
