Wanted

Radhe works for a gang in Mumbai. He shoots well, thinks fast and shows loyalty to nobody; he works for whoever pays. Before long he becomes one of the most trusted men of the head of the city's largest gang. At the same time he is interested in a woman in his neighbourhood and behaves as though he lives an ordinary life with his mother. The police are looking for him. Then who is who comes out. Prabhu Deva directs. Salman Khan plays Radhe; Ayesha Takia and Vinod Khanna are in the cast. The film is a remake of a Telugu production; the original was built on the same story and had been a large success. It is counted a turning point in Salman Khan's career; after it he had one large commercial success after another. The form is mainstream action; the fights are exaggerated and the rules of physics are deliberately bent. Prabhu Deva was known as a dancer and the movement design carries that background. The disclosure at the end changes the whole narrative, a plot device much used in the genre afterwards. Its limit is the script; the woman's part is functional and the violence heavy. Who it is for: viewers who like mainstream Indian action and Salman Khan. Who it is not for: the narrative is predictable, the violence continuous, and the characters one dimensional.
