New Mexico, the summer of 1974. The Groden family lives out in the desert with no electricity and almost no money. Bo is eleven and watches everything. Her mother Arlene works the garden; her father Charley has been crying for months and cannot tell anyone why. One day William Gibbs from the tax office turns up at the door; the family has not filed in years and he wants to understand how they live on so little. Then a bee stings him and he does not leave. Over that summer all three of their lives change. Campbell Scott directs the American film; a hundred and eight minutes, with Joan Allen as Arlene, Sam Elliott as Charley and Valentina de Angelis as Bo; the grown Bo's voice belongs to Amy Brenneman.
