Campbell Scott
19 films · 2 series
Campbell Scott played Willy in Longtime Companion, Norman Rene's first feature. To the AFI, there was a hesitation while the film was being put together about whether a large-scale production on AIDS would draw investors, since nothing existed at the time to show that such a thing could be sold. The film drew a single Oscar nomination, for Bruce Davison as supporting actor. Rene's New York Times obituary, dated 26 May 1996, gives his own death, at forty-five, as from AIDS. In 1991 Scott was Victor Geddes in Joel Schumacher's Dying Young. That film rests on Marti Leimbach's novel, a New York publication of 1990, and the AFI records that the triangle between Hilary, Victor Geddes and Gordon in the novel was altered in favour of a more familiar love story. Independent Spirit twice put him up for male lead: at the 1995 ceremony for Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, and at the 2003 ceremony for Roger Dodger.
