Omar Gatlato

Omar is a young man living in Algeria. His home is in a satellite town above Bab El Oued. He lives with his large family in a small flat. He works as an officer in the customs service. He has no clear goal in his life. His days pass one like another. He kills time with his friends. They are devoted to two things. One is Chaabi music. The other is a manner built on being a man. One day a friend gives him a tape. On it is a woman’s voice. Omar is taken with that voice. His friend arranges a meeting with her. But the woman is nothing like the one he imagined. Boualem Benani and Farida Mestoul take the leads in Merzak Allouache’s Algerian film of 1976.
