Two people working at an abattoir discover they dream the same dream every night: a stag and a doe in the snow. Awake, they cannot manage a sentence to each other. The film makes no attempt to explain the premise. Its real interest is in two people who cannot approach touch and do not know what to do with their bodies; the abattoir scenes stand as contrast rather than violence. Ildiko Enyedi directed. It won the Golden Bear in Berlin and was nominated for the foreign film Academy Award. A real warning: the film contains real slaughter footage and a long scene of self-harm. Both are shown directly.
